Local Information
Weather
July in Changchun averages 20–30°C (68–86°F) with occasional rain. Bring light summer clothing.
Electricity
China uses 220 V at 50 Hz. The sockets are the Chinese/Australian style (type I, two angled flat pins plus a vertical earth pin); older type A flat-pin sockets are also still found. Visitors from continental Europe and the United Kingdom will need a travel adapter. See Mains electricity by country for the details.
Currency
The local currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY / RMB). Mobile payment is widely used in China, and international visitors can link a foreign credit card in Alipay. The Shanghai municipal government publishes an English guide on how to use Alipay.
Mobile Data and eSIM
You can buy a physical tourist SIM card with your passport from China Telecom, China Mobile or China Unicom shops, and from some airport kiosks. For a short visit, an eSIM bought before you travel is easier. Providers such as Airalo and Nomad sell China packages that run on the China Unicom network. The China National Tourist Office has an English overview of internet and SIM cards.
