On the afternoon of August 28, Jilin University's fifth Dingxin Lecture in 2019 was held at dingxin Lecture Hall on the Central Campus. At the invitation of Jilin University and the National Center for The North-East Center for Mathematics, the Fields Prize winner, Professor CaucherBirkar of the University of Cambridge, gave an academic lecture entitled "My Journey into the World of Mathematics". Professor Zheng Weitao, Vice-Chancellor of Jilin University, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Mathematical Society and Researcher Chen Yifei of the Institute of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the lecture, which was attended by more than a thousand teachers and students from both inside and outside the university. The lecture was moderated by Professor Zhang Ran, Vice Dean of the School of Mathematics and Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Northeast Center of Mathematics of the State Tianyuan. Zheng Weitao presented Professor CaucherBirkar with a commemorative plaque for the new lecture.

Zheng Weitao, on behalf of the school, welcomed the arrival of Professor CaucherBirkar, and pointed out that mathematics subjects in the natural sciences, high-tech and other fields of research plays an important role in supporting the development of other disciplines. He hoped that under the leadership of Tianyuan Mathematics Northeast Center, our school mathematics discipline should take advantage of the development opportunities of "double-first-class" construction, actively promote the construction of national mathematics research and exchange platform, and strive to build a world-class mathematics discipline.

In his lecture, Professor CaucherBirkar recounted how he embarked on the path of mathematics and his inspiring experience of relentless exploration and pursuit of mathematical research through long and arduous efforts. He believesthat we should help young scholars solve problems, do a good job in mathematical research, constantly absorb the essence of multi-culturalism, and inspire more mathematical inspiration to jointly promote the progress and development of human civilization. Professor CaucherBirkar's speech thought deep, unique insight, mathematics learning has a deep insight and understanding, strongly infected every present teacher and student, the whole lecture climax, applause.
