August5-9,the National Natural Science Foundation Mathematics Tianyuan Foundation and Jilin University, The Tianyuan Mathematics Northeast Center and Jilin University School of Mathematics jointly organized the "International Symposium on Differential Power System" held at Jilin University Central Campus. More than60experts and scholars from Peking University, Fudan University, Nankai University, Xiamen University, Suzhou University and other universities participated in the seminar. Professor Li Yong, Director of the Institute of Mathematics, Jilin University, and Professor Zhang Ran, Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Northeast Center for Mathematics of the State Tianyuan, attended the opening ceremony.

She briefly introduced the development and construction of the center, she introduced that since its establishment, the center for scholars in the Northeast region to build a convenient platform for academic activities, strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation between regions, create a good academic atmosphere, so that the number of participants in the Northeast region increased in proportion. In conjunction with the recent work programme on strengthening mathematical scientific research jointly issued by the four ministries, she said that the center will deeply implement the spirit of the Program and strive to build it into an internationally important center for the training of personnel in mathematics disciplines, a center for scientific research and innovation, and a center for academic exchange and cooperation, so as to make due contributions to the construction of a mathematical power.

The5-dayevent consists of presentations, short courses, seminars and free discussions. During the event, ProfessorJose Alves,a Portuguese mathematician, taught a short course entitledThe Gibbs-Markov-Young Structure.The seminar was convened by Professor Li Yong of Jilin University and Professor Yang Dawei of Suzhou University, and in the seminar, international scholars from the United States, Korea, Uruguay and other countries, as well as domestic differential power system experts from Peking University, Fudan University, Nankai University, Xiamen University, Suzhou University and other universities made academic reports.
