Algebraic geometry is a central field of mathematics. It has strong connections with many other fields within and outside mathematics such as algebra, number theory, differential geometry, topology, physics, computer science, etc. In this talk I will start with introducing algebraic geometry and then explain some of those connections.

主讲人简介：
Caucher Birkar （考切尔 比尔卡尔），英国剑桥大学教授，师从美国约翰霍普金斯大学Shokurov教授，从事代数几何中双有理几何学的研究。与Cascini，Hacon和 McKernan的合作工作中，分类了一般型代数簇，这项工作是双有理代数几何领域的重大突破。2006年，他获得了英国 Leverhulme奖。2016年，他获得美国数学会Moore研究论文奖。2016年，Birkar独立解决了关于法诺代数簇的重要猜想BAB猜想。由于在BAB猜想以及他在双有理代数几何中的重要贡献，他于2018年获得了数学界最高奖项——菲尔兹奖（Fields Medal）。
