We first review the Atiyah classes appeared in complex geometry, foliation theory and  Lie theory,

and then use  the Atiyah class of a Lie algebroid pair to unify these cases.

Moreover, we shall see how to construct a strongly homotopy Lie algebra from a Lie algebroid pair,

where the Atiyah class serves as the binary bracket.
